Nine Incredible and Unique Places to Stay in The United States

Walhalla Treehouse, South Carolina

If there is a place in the United States that perfectly combines adventure, romance, and luxury, it’s the Walhalla Treehouse. If there is anything in the world that can be described as perfect, this incredible treehouse tucked into the rolling South Carolina mountains should be it.

Surrounded by lush forests, the property was completed in 2015 by father-son duo Seth & Larry Bolt. It’s entirely eco-friendly and built by hand, and first served as Seth’s wedding venue in 2016. Yes, it’s that romantic!

Park Butte Lookout, Washington

Staying at Park Butte Lookout requires hiking 2200ft in elevation gain and comes on a first-come-first-serve basis. However, the unique experience of staying in an old fire lookout high in the Cascades makes the trek entirely worth it.

The trail is heavily trafficked in the summer and on many weekends. Although most people are on a day hike, plan to arrive midday to claim your spot. If other hikers arrive and there is room in the fire tower, welcome them to join the adventure.

Flying Squirrel Treehouse, Kentucky

Kentucky's Red River Gorge is famous for its abundant rock climbing crags. Climbers from all over the world often flock to this remote gorge in search of the perfect send. Even if you aren’t a climber, The Red is home to Natural Bridge State Park, arches galore, and a wide variety of hiking trails.

Tucked in solitude in a small patch of woods is the Flying Squirrel Treehouse built by the Red River Gorge Cabin Company. The small-yet-cozy accommodation features a fire pit, outhouse, cooking station, and games for guests. The lack of electricity and cell-phone services allows for a perfect getaway to disconnect from it all. Better yet, it’s incredibly affordable!

Things to note: From the parking area, you must hike roughly a quarter-mile into the woods.
