8 Treehouses in the United States You Can Book
November 2, 2026Ā
I was never the kind of kid who dreamed of living in a castle. Instead, I always wanted to live in a treehouse. There was always something dreamy and magical about it, like living as a fairy in an enchanted forest.Ā
Now, as a kid, I never thought Iād ever actually get to stay in a treehouse. But I also never thought Iād be a travel blogger for a living. And turns out, staying in treehouses as a travel blogger is kind of my job sometimes!Ā
There are tons of incredible treehouses you can stay in across the United States, and Iāve had the pleasure of testing a handful of them. From budget off-grid treehouses in Kentucky to luxury multi-story treehouses in Montana, here are just a few places you can stay in a treehouse in the United States.Ā
1. Sanctuary Treehouse, Asheville, North CarolinaĀ
Sanctuary is the treehouse that delivers the fairy-tale feeling I was chasing as a kid, and I recently got to check it out in September. Sometimes you wonder if these places live up to the photos, and this one does. Only 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, you are close to everything you need, while having the most incredible sunsets of the Blue Ridge Mountains from your treehouse deck every evening. Just know the kitchen doesnāt have a stove, and the whole place sways a little in the wind, which is honestly part of the charm!Ā
2. Meadowlark Treehouse, Whitefish, MontanaĀ
If you want to see just how fancy a treehouse can get, Meadowlark Treehouse is it. This multi-level, 500-square-foot retreat sits on five forested acres, with two living trees growing right through the house. You get a private master suite with a queen bed, bathroom, and balcony, plus a full kitchen with a stove and dishwasher, which is a rarity in the treehouse world. Itās about five minutes from Whitefish and Columbia Falls and just outside Glacier National Park, making it the perfect home base for a Montana adventure. Itās l-u-xāu-r-y, and perfect for those searching for āglamping Instagram vibes.āĀ
3. Flying Squirrel Treehouse, Red River Gorge, KentuckyĀ
This was the first treehouse I ever stayed in. I wrote about it on this blog over a decade ago, and I still get so many people reaching out and asking me about it. The Flying Squirrel Treehouse is no-frills and feels a little more like camping than a luxury tree escape, but thatās also what I love about it. No plumbing, no electricity, so bring your lantern! But itās the perfect escape to disconnect in the woods and read a good book. And even better yet, itās totally affordable, and you donāt have to fork out hundreds of dollars a night to stay.Ā
4. Tree Vista, Ionia, MichiganĀ
Tree Vista is billed as Michiganās first luxury treehouse resort, tucked into the woods near the Grand River about 45 minutes from Lansing. The treehouse sleeps up to six with two bedrooms and a sofa bed, and it comes with a balcony, a grill, and fire pits so you can settle in and not leave for days. Hiking, fishing, and lawn games are right on the property, making for a true Midwest escape! Being from Michigan, I was SO excited when this treehouse came to the area, as I always thought Michigan was perfect for these types of accommodations.Ā
5. Ozark Treehouse, Ozark, MissouriĀ
Ozark Treehouse is a woodsy escape in the rolling hills of the Missouri Ozarks, a part of the country that doesnāt get nearly enough credit for its scenery. If you havenāt explored the Oarks yet, you should add it to your list! Think slow mornings on the deck, evenings by the fire, and nothing but forest sounds. If youāre looking for an easy treehouse weekend in the Midwest, this is a great place to start.
6. Chez Treehouse, Lafayette, New YorkĀ
Chez is a two-story treehouse built by hand and perched about 35 feet above the forest floor on 20 wooded acres, roughly 10 miles south of Syracuse. Itās made for two, with a double bed and all the cozy stuff you want in a getaway, like heat, electric blankets, and a fire pit with firewood. Thereās plenty to do nearby too, from hiking and fishing to kayaking and swimming. Itās an easy choice for a romantic weekend in Upstate New York, especially when the maples start changing color.
7. Eagleās Nest Treehouse, Bodega Bay, CaliforniaĀ
Eagleās Nest sits about 30 feet up in the trees on Salmon Creek Ranch, a working organic farm on the Sonoma Coast, and you reach it by climbing a spiral staircase and crossing a suspension bridge. Cool, right? Inside, the floor, ceiling, and trim are redwood milled from fallen 1,000-year-old trees on the property, and the shower has floor-to-ceiling windows looking out at the forest. Outside you get a wrap-around deck and a private picnic spot with a fire pit and grill, and you can wander the ranch to meet the ducks, goats, and cows. It won Hipcampās Best Treehouse award in 2024, and itās easy to see why!Ā
8. The Majestree, Cave Junction, OregonĀ
The Majestree is the tallest treehouse at OutānāAbout Treesort, standing at an astounding 47 feet off the ground! This one might not be for those wary of heights. To get inside, you must climb four flights of stairs and cross two suspension bridges. I love those added elements of adventure! It sleeps up to six, with a queen bed on the main level and two doubles in the loft, plus a full bathroom and a little kitchenette. The treesort itself feels like summer camp, with a Tarzan swing, ziplines, and river rafting nearby. If you want a treehouse stay thatās also an adventure, this is the one.
I grew up in rural Michigan with a mother who struggled with addiction, and travel became my escape long before it became my career. I spent my childhood glued to The Wild Thornberrys, dreaming about a world much bigger than my small town. I didnāt see a passport in real life until I held my own at 19, and Iāve been chasing far-away places ever since. I got my start as a Michigan travel blogger, exploring the shores of the Great Lakes and sleeping in my car. Now I run a travel blog about the places that donāt always make the top-ten lists and travel the world with my husband, Josh, and our three adventure cats. Pull up a chair (aisle, if youāre lucky) and letās wander!
